Chemical Cocktails!

 

 

What are ‘chemical cocktails’? Artificially sweetened drinks, such as diet sodas, sweetened iced tea … any drink sweetened with something other than sugar! 

Most people drink these ‘cocktails’ to lose or control weight. However, many people do not lose weight; they even gain weight. Why?

Diet drinks avoid the 140-plus calories you'd find in a sugary soft drink and may control your urge for something sweet. But diet drinks could be unhealthy and lead to weight gain!

Some researchers have found that over 10 years, diet soda drinkers had a 70% greater increase in waist size compared with non-drinkers. And diet soda drinkers who had two or more sodas a day experienced a 500% greater increase in waist size.

In some studies, artificial sweeteners were shown to have the same effect on your body as sugar. Research has shown that some artificial sweeteners may trigger insulin like sugar does, which tells your body to store fat and gain weight.

The way artificial sweeteners confuse the body to store fat may play a part in weight gain, but another reason might be psychological. When you know you're not consuming liquid calories, it might be easier to rationalize eating that double cheeseburger or large fries.

Bottom line: The research is unclear, but if you are using drinks sweetened with artificial sweeteners and not losing weight or even gaining weight, drink the best no calorie drink…. water! If plain water doesn’t taste good to you, try flavored carbonated water (without sweeteners) or sparkling water/club soda.
